The DPRK is continuing to issue strong statements, three days after announcing its plans to launch a new nuclear test. They come despite the UN resolution imposing new sanctions on the country. The DPRK’s top leader, Kim Jong-un, has promised to take „high-profile important state measures“. Analysts say the „important measures“ might relate to its third nuclear test.
At a meeting with top security and foreign affairs officials, Kim Jong-un voiced his „firm resolution to take substantial and high-profile important state measures“ in light of the „grave situation“ on the peninsula.
He did not elaborate on the planned measures, but appeared to refer to a planned nuclear test scheduled to occur within the next few weeks.
The warning comes one day after Pyongyang called the test “ a demand of the people“ following sanctions adopted by the UN Security Council last week.
DPRK State media says the fact proved once again that the DPRK should defend its own sovereignty by itself.
Many soldiers and residents have expressed their will to maintain the dignity of the DPRK military.
Lee Ming-Hsun, a DPRK soldier, said, „Under the leadership of the United States and the United Kingdom, the United Nations has approved the sanctions resolution on us. How dare the United States violate our sacred autonomy.“
„We are angry with South Korea’s support for UN sanctions. The rocket launch is a happy event for our ethnic Koreans.“
